Block Slope on Central Cone Lava

Central Cone Lava shaped in eruption almost 500 years ago is called aa lava, which is fragmentary rugged rock covering the surface.
The rugged rocks were separated by the movement of lava flow, and broke into pieces.

You might run into Yezo Pika (Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis) at crannies between rocks.
Yezo Pika is called survivors from the Ice Age. They don’t like hot temperature in Summer, and tend to live in cool places between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.
There is possibility that the crannies become a passageway (wind cave), and play an important role as a cool air intake pipe.

Block Slope on Central Cone Lava allows you to walk on fresh lava which is not covered by vegetation. It plays an important role to learn volcanic activities and to think about disaster prevention about Mt.Tokachidake.
