Komatsubara primary forest
Komatsubara primary forest is a typical forest in central Hokkaido. Coniferous trees and broad-leaf trees grow and mix together there. The area is habitable environment for wild animals, such as Hokkaido deer, brown bear, Hokkaido squirrel, and Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis.
The oldest trees at Komatsubara are just under 130 years old. This means the forest at Komatsubara might be affected by eruption of Mt.Tokachidake in 1857.
There is a sign of ground crater lava flow around altitude 710m. You can find different vegetation from surroundings, and bryophyte (below photo). Ochotona hyperborea yesoensis live between those rocks.
