Kamifurano cultivation history square

Kamifurano cultivation history square is located at Kusawake-district which is a starting point of cultivation in Furano basin. There is a memorial hall for Kamifurano cultivation, Kusawake shrine, and a literature monument of novels “Deiryu Chitai” in the square. Cultivation of Furano basin started from arrival at elm tree of Tsunejiro Tanaka and other 7 persons from Mie prefecture at 12th April in 1897. Address of arrival point is Nishi 3 sen Kita 29 in Kamifurano town. This square was built in 1997 as 100th anniversary about the beginning of cultivation in the town.
The building of a memorial hall for Kamifurano cultivation is reconstructed. Teijiro Yoshida was a village mayor when Mt.Tokachidake erupted, and he lived the house. Due to mud flow, the house was half destroyed, but barely survived. You can appreciate exhibition about mud flow, and relics of the village mayor there. You can also see a driftwood found at construction site in Izumi machi area.
A literature monument was built at right hand side of Kusawake shrine in 1984 for memorial of the novels “Deiryu Chitai” written by Ayako Miura. The words “Deiryu Chitai” on the monument is a writing same as the one by Ayako Miura. She visited Kamifurano town many times to do hearing investigation to write the novels.
